Boys, Kites, and a Poodle

Weather has been so nice lately. Cool and windy. It stared during the last week of October. That was strange because we normally don't get this cool (mid-60's to mid-70's) this early. Normally it's in December and January. But, I sure do love it! The boys have been asking their Daddy to fly kites almost every afternoon after school time. So... off they go. And I get to enjoy a quiet house for a little while. Yesterday, I tagged along.

Little guy had a fried chicken for a snack.

MooMoo, the poodle, follows him around.

"Do you want some, Moo?" He asks.

After taking just a few bites, he gives it to the dog. Little kid, big heart. That's my boy!

And then my middle boy and I ran a kilometer with this doggie. The end.

I'm A "Lucky" Wife

I love being in the kitchen. I love to cook. BUT.... my husband loves to bake - from scratch. I'm a lucky blessed wife. When I'm too lazy to bake and I'm craving for something, he is willing to make it for me. Yesterday he baked an apple pie - all from scratch, once again. And it wasn't just a slap-it-down-on-the-top pie crust, he made a lattice! I'm so proud of him. It really was as yummy as it looks. Our boys were smacking their lips and licking their fingers.

Might As Well Toss the Other One!

So... I was taking three-year old portraits of my little boy yesterday when I felt funny underneath my right shoe. The heel came off!!! Holy Moly! Hahaha! I have worn these shoes on a few times. They were a gift. I inspected the broken one and it was beyond repair. So I told my oldest son to just go ahead and toss it. "Here, Bud, you might as well toss the other one too!" Today our neighbors were burning their trash pile (AGAIN) and I saw my shoes in there. Goodbye, shoes! Now I have reason to buy another pair. Hahaha!
Here are a few of my favorites from yesterday. This little boy surprised me. He was giddy about getting his pictures taken. That's a very rare occasion! I'm biased but I think he could be a GAP baby model. ;-) We lovingly call him "Bubba" because he's the baby (bubba) in the family. God blessed me to raise up this sweet little stinker.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As most of you know, October is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month." I've never really put emphasis to it before other than just last year's "game" women played by putting their bra color as their facebook status which left men wondering. Hahaha!

I have a couple friends that suffered from this disease and have friends who have family members or friends who battle/battled it too. So, in their honor, here's my photography attempt to raise breast cancer awareness.

We had an unexpected side trip to the beach yesterday. That's where I found this hat hanging on this beach chair. I thought the hat was lovely. :-)

A Photo A Day for A Year

So... I gave in to peer pressure. Several of my friends are doing a photo a day for 365 days. A lady who's blog I've been following who did the "Creativity Boot Camp" back in June is doing this now too so I decided to do it as well to see where my year would take me. :-) I started on August 26, 2010 and will finish on August 25, 2011.

I have been posting my photos daily on facebook and flickr but decided to build a blog just for my photography so I can easily link up my journey with other blogs. So, here we go!

How My Photography Journey Started

I like beauty. I'm not one for knick-knacks laying around the house but I do appreciate beautiful and nifty things. I wish I was an interior decorator. I wish I knew how to arrange flowers artistically in stead of just throwing them in a vase. I wish I could draw or paint. I always wanted to be an artist. I had a few water color painting lessons when I was ten years old. But I am an artist - a performance artist. I play piano and I sing. God didn't grant my desire to be a concert pianist but I am so thankful for my intense musical training all the way from childhood up to my college years. God called me to be a wife and mom and I am so privileged to fulfill those roles.

I remember the very first time we had our digital camera in 2001 right after our first child was born. We went crazy with all the things that "little" machine could do. My husband had photography classes when he was in high school so he showed me some tricks. We owned two more compact digital cameras after that first one and then we purchased our DSLR in 2006. It came with two lenses for the price of just the body! I was IN LOVE. I fell in love with photography. I wanted to learn more. I wanted to understand aperture and shutter speed and all that. It wasn't until just a few months ago that I started really reading more about photography and understanding the marriage between shutter speed and aperture. I was addicted! I started finding ways to practice and found photo challenges and photo hunts done by photo bloggers. I was HOOKED! So begins my photography journal.

I am not a pro although I'm open to the idea of becoming one in the future, probably when my kids are grown and off to college. That's going to be awhile. For now, I am just happy to be snapping away with my camera and invite stares from people in this area where I live. Ha! I don't care anymore if I get stared at. I am shutter bug!
